Teenage Pretorius Makes History, Shatters Miandad's 48-Year Record With Debut 150

South Africa has a new cricketing hero! Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a 19-year-old prodigy, has rewritten the record books by becoming the youngest player ever to score 150 runs in a Test innings. This remarkable feat occurred during his debut Test match against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club, shattering a 48-year-old record previously held by Pakistani legend Javed Miandad.

Pretorius, at the tender age of 19 years and 93 days, crafted a magnificent innings of 153 runs from 160 balls. In 1976, Miandad was 19 years and 119 days old when he scored 163 on debut against New Zealand in Lahore. Now, Pretorius also holds the title of the youngest South African to achieve a Test century and ranks among the five youngest players in Test history to score a century on debut.

His aggressive innings proved vital for South Africa, who were struggling at 23 for 3 and later 55 for 4. Pretorius forged a dynamic 95-run partnership in just 88 balls with fellow debutant Dewald Brevis. Brevis contributed a rapid 51 off 38 balls, including four towering sixes, marking the fastest Test half-century by a South African debutant.

"I was nervous when I first came to the crease," Pretorius admitted after the day's play. "We had a plan to target the spinners, knowing they only had two seam bowlers. I just love batting, and thankfully, it all worked out today."

Pretorius reached his century in 112 deliveries and his 150 in 157 balls before being dismissed by Tanaka Chivanga, who ended the day with impressive figures of 4 for 83. His innings included 11 boundaries and four towering sixes.

South Africa concluded Day 1 with a score of 418 for 9. Corbin Bosch also celebrated a significant milestone, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 124 balls – his maiden century. He received valuable support from Kwena Maphaka (9*) and Codi Yusuf, who contributed a useful 27 during a 59-run partnership for the ninth wicket.

Ultimately, the day belonged to Lhuan-dre Pretorius, the young star who etched his name in cricketing history with a record-breaking performance.
