ICC Clears South Africa's Subrayen to Bowl After Action Review

South Africa off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been cleared to continue bowling in international cricket after his action was found to be legal, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Sunday.

Subrayen was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first ODI against Australia in Cairns on August 19. Following the match, he underwent an independent bowling assessment at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on August 26.

The assessment revealed that the amount of elbow extension in all his deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under ICC regulations.

“The ICC today confirmed that the bowling action of South Africa spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been found to be legal, and the player can continue bowling in international cricket,” the governing body said in a statement.

The 31-year-old has made just two international appearances so far in 2025, both debuting this year — a Test match in Zimbabwe and the ODI in Australia where he was first reported. Subrayen has claimed five international wickets in those outings and will now aim to cement his place in the Proteas setup.

During South Africa’s recent tour of Australia, Subrayen featured in the opening ODI, where he picked up a wicket before being reported. The Proteas went on to lose the T20I series 1-2, but bounced back strongly to win the ODI series.

Subrayen’s clearance comes as a relief for South Africa, who are looking to strengthen their spin options ahead of a busy international calendar. Known for his accuracy and ability to extract turn, he will be eager to add to his tally of international scalps and secure more consistent opportunities with the national side.
