Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the US Open men’s doubles title after beating Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in the final. On Saturday, September 6, the Spanish-Argentine duo took two hours and 24 minutes to rally back from a set down and win 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Earlier this year, Granollers and Zeballos won their first Grand Slam as a team at the 2025 French Open, beating Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-5 in the final. They also ousted the same opponents when they faced off in the Wimbledon.
US Open 2025 Final Updates
"It was an amazing battle. These matches are so unfair when there is a winner and a loser. The guys (Britons) did great and they also deserved to win. I can't believe we just won the U.S. Open. It's so beautiful to be here. It's always tough to find a good crowd for doubles, but you guys are amazing,” Zeballos said in the post-match interview.
Granollers and Zeballos found themselves under pressure early, surrendering the opening set after a pair of costly double faults handed the Britons the only break they needed. In the second, though, the Spanish-Argentine partnership showcased their fighting spirit, erasing three break points from 40-0 down at 3-3 and storming back with five straight points for a defiant hold.
The set rolled into a tiebreak, where Salisbury and Skupski blinked at crucial moments, committing a double fault and a net error that shifted momentum. Granollers and Zeballos capitalized, drawing level at one set apiece.
The decider turned into a serving duel, with both sides holding firm until the British duo created three match points. But once again, Granollers and Zeballos refused to yield, summoning grit and composure to save them all and battle through a determined hold that kept their championship dream alive.
With momentum firmly on their side, Granollers and Zeballos immediately broke Salisbury and Skupski in the following game, setting themselves up to serve for the championship. Though denied on their first opportunity, they held their nerve and clinched the title on the second, completing a remarkable turnaround.
For Salisbury and Skupski, the defeat ended what could have been a historic moment. Partnering only since the beginning of the season, the duo were within touching distance of becoming the first all-British team since 1903 to capture the U.S. Open men’s doubles crown.
