The compensation amount of ₹667.73 crore is expected to provide much-needed relief to over 2.36 lakh distressed farmers in Kalaburagi district who suffered crop loss during the kharif season.

In a significant move, the government of Karnataka will release ₹667.73 crore as compensation for 2,36,933 farmers who had suffered crop loss in Kalaburagi district during the kharif season .
On March 24, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge stated that this could possibly be the highest compensation announced to farmers of Kalaburagi district so far. The Minister said that the compensation relief includes both the crop insurance claims as well as the loss suffered due to crop damage, marking a significant step in providing immediate relief to those affected by natural calamities.
“This relief package is a testament to our commitment towards the farming community. The total compensation amount of ₹667.73 crore will provide much-needed fillip to over 2.36 lakh distressed farmers in the district. Our government’s efforts to provide financial relief will go a long way in helping farmers recover from the losses they have suffered, we will continue to address the farmers’ grievances and pull them out of the crisis,” Mr Kharge stated.
Of the ₹667.73 crore compensation, a sum of ₹575.194 crore would be released towards insurance claims of 2,04,073 farmers who enrolled under the crop insurance scheme during the 2024-25 Kharif season. In addition, as many as 2,01,847 farmers in the district have already received an interim relief of ₹76.34 crore for crop damage caused by natural calamities.
The Minister clarified that the data collection process on the crop loss portal at Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority is underway, and the compensation amount will be directly credited into the bank accounts of the affected farmers.
The government of Kàrnataka has announced an additional incentive of ₹450 per quintal for red gram along with the minimum support price (MSP) of ₹7,550 announced by the Central Government, Mr. Kharge said.
The government of Karnataka has also extended relief of ₹13.47 crore through the National and State Drought Relief Fund to 35,086 farmers who suffered loss due to crop damage on 16,373 hectares of land in August and September 2024.
